One of the delicious offspring resulting from crosses within the Rubus species, the Loganberry is a superb hybrid of the European Raspberry and the North American Blackberry (Rubus Ursinus). A succulent and flavourful deep-red berry, the Loganberry boasts a delightful balance of sweetness and tartness, making it an excellent choice for cultivation. Similar in size and shape to a Blackberry, Loganberries are also rich in Vitamin C. Abundantly borne during the early summer months, Loganberries are not only delicious when consumed fresh but also lend themselves well to a variety of culinary products such as jams, pastries, pies, and juices. Like many hybrids, the Loganberry displays vigorous growth, swiftly reaching an average height of 2 metres; thus, providing support such as a trellis or fence is essential. Thornless varieties of the Loganberry are readily available, offering a convenient option for cultivation. Ensure a slightly acidic, well-draining soil and consistent rainfall throughout the year for optimal growth. While Loganberries thrive in full sun, they may benefit from partial shade in regions with particularly harsh and hot summers. Loganberry are more cold hardy than Blackberries but prefer a lighter soil. A delectable addition to any temperate garden, the Loganberry is an excellent berry to cultivate.
