General Info – Lingaro
The Lingaro is a medium-sized shrub native to the tropical highlands of the Phillipines and is well-suited for low-maintenance gardens or for those seeking a rare, ornamental shrub. Lingaro shrubs can take on either an upright or sprawling form, depending on pruning, and serve as an excellent ornamental feature, with the small green leaves often adorned with small white speckles. Lingaro reach heights of up to 3m, with the arching branches keeping the height of the plants low. Lingaro are self-pollinating, bearing small, edible pink/red berries with white speckles and the flavour of Cherry and Currant. Fruits offer a delightful combination of tartness and sweetness, finding use in various products such as jams, jellies, and sauces. Lingaro are a member of the Elaeagnus family together with the Goumi. Like Goumi, Lingaro possesses striking red fruits that attract birds and may require gardeners to net plants if they wish to retain all their fruits. Plants exhibit tolerance to low rainfall, drought, and strong winds, making them suitable for harsh conditions, provided they receive good drainage and protection from more than just light frosts. A wonderful shrub for low-maintenance gardens with an ornamental form and edible fruits.
